Who we are

DockBuddy was created out of necessity.

While boating with inexperienced or shorthanded crew, returning to the slip safely is often a challenge. Winds and currents add a level of complexity, challenging even the best captain.

When casting off while leaving the dock, lines are often tossed to hard, causing a tripping hazard for others walking the dock, or tossed not hard enough so the line ends up in the water.

However, returning to the dock is a more significant problem which can lead to significant injury and damage.

With dock lines lying on the dock or in water, typically a crewmember needs to jump off the boat, while the boat is still moving into the dock. This task is prone to injury since the deck of the boat is usually several feet higher than the dock. Once on the dock, crew must quickly fetch the important lines to stop the boat from crashing into the dock, while the remaining lines are attached. Typically these initial lines are the spring or stern lines.

DockBuddy is a simple device that is ideal for holding your spring or stern lines, critical first lines for safe docking. DockBuddy holds these lines at a convenient height so crew can access the lines safely from the boat.
